Bungawarra Wines

Bungawarra Wines is a hands-on estate winery in Ballandean where every bottle comes from vines growing on the property, some over a century old. Owner and winemaker Jeff Harden has shaped the place since 1993, managing everything from vineyard to bottling using sustainable practices. The range spans bright floral whites through to bold character-filled reds, each expressing the Granite Belt's distinctive terroir and the particular season that shaped it.

The cellar door welcomes visitors for relaxed tastings, often poured by Jeff himself, who's known for explaining the story behind each wine. A deck overlooks the vineyard, and the property offers plenty of space for picnics among the trees and open vines—visitors are encouraged to bring their own lunch and settle in for the afternoon. The setting has also hosted Shakespeare Under the Stars performances, a collaboration with Stanthorpe Little Theatre that began here among the rows.

Visitors regularly praise the unhurried atmosphere and the chance to taste wines while talking directly with the person who made them. The combination of heritage vines, genuine hospitality and room to genuinely unwind makes this a cellar door where people tend to linger longer than planned.
